This activity, with its extension into hybrid optoelectronic systems, continued under SCIOS support and acted as the focus for the programme. It demanded numerous optoelectronic and optical components and formed a basis for the specification of next-generation device technologies and system architecture concepts.

The SCIOS funding contributed to a variety of collaborative projects involving the partner universities.
