- The Glasgow and Heriot-Watt
groups worked together on new optical logic arrays and demonstrated InGaAs
self-electro-optic effect device (SEED) arrays containing 256 symmetric-SEEDs.
These optical switch devices were designed to operate at a wavelengths of
1047 - 1064 nm - permitting their use with convenient high-power diode-pumped
lasers.
- Heriot-Watt and Glasgow
Universities aslo collaborated on the development of the diffractive/holographic
micro-optical components, suitable for optical power distribution to, and
interconnections between, the optical logic planes within the demonstrator
processing systems. Such optical components have found application in numerous
areas of optical technology.
