• The optoelectronic crossbar A second technology demonstrator which is being worked on as part of the SPOEC European project is a crossbar routing switch designed to handle 16 Gbit/s of data. This uses a VCSEL array to input data in optical format and diffractive optics to fan-out signals across the hybrid switching chip (again an InGaAs/CMOS combination). A key objective of this experiment is to demonstrate the input of data to a single silicon chip in the Tbit/s domain.
