In the later stages of the SCIOS programme the Heriot-Watt, Edinburgh and Glasgow groups combined their expertise to produce hybrid optoelectronic (smart pixel) arrays. This technology brought together state-of-the-art silicon integrated circuits with optoelectronic interface arrays so as to enable high-bandwidth optical communication between microelectronic chips.
